Union HRD Minister opens Cancer institute, Super speciality block at KSHEMA

Mangalore, March 27, 2013: Union Human Resource Development Minister Dr. M M Pallam Raju stressed the need for fastening capacity building and thereby producing skilled human resource in every professional area in the country.

He observed that capacity building is happening in medical field and this should be emulated in other areas also. He was speaking after inaugurating Leela Narayan Shetty Memorial Cancer Institute and Dr N V Adyanthaya Research and Super Speciality Block, coming under Justice K S Hegde Charitable hospital at K S Hegde Medical Academy, Derlakatte in Mangalore on Tuesday.








The Union HRD Minister said that medical field in India has been producing skilled human resource. “They are employable and deployable anywhere in the world. Similarly, other fields too should concentrate on capacity building,” he said.

Primary Health Care

The country still has to go a long way in Primary Healthcare, he said that the UPA government has been following a policy of inclusiveness in healthcare. “However, the government alone cannot do that. A combined effort including NGOs and private participation is needed,” he observed and added that while one side of India is below the poverty line, another side is eagerly looking forward to seize the opportunities.

All praise for coastal region

The Union Minister said that nowhere in India he found such a ‘giving back to society’ as in Karnataka’s coastal region. “The sincerity in pooling back resources in the fields of education and health care is something unique of this region. The funds utilized in these sectors have taken me by surprise. The quality and quantity of research being done here is amazing. I never could assess the depth of this coastal region,” he said and emphasized that the decent, affordable medical facilities provided by various institutions in the region are worth emulating. The Union Minister also applauded the philanthropic gestures of Nitte group in health care sector. Karnataka former Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde felt that no other area can rub shoulder with undivided Dakshina Kannada in the arena of banking, health care and education. Nitte University Chancellor N Vinaya Hegde presided over the function. Nitte University Vice Chancellor Prof S Ramananda Shetty, Dr Narayan Shetty (Cardiologist, Pittsburg, USA) and Pro-Chancellor Prof M Shantharam Shetty among others spoke. 







Dr N V Adyanthaya Research and Super Speciality Block is a 1200 bed hospital with state-of-the-art facilities. Leela Narayan Shetty Memorial Cancer Institute is equipped with most modern Linear Accelerator, first of its kind in Mangalore.
