A One-day seminar on “Trends in Clinical Research-An Overview” was organized by the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry on 12th
November 2013. The Seminar was delivered by a team of executives from
Quintiles India, Bangalore headed by Mr. Sanjay Patel, Senior Director
& Head-CDM.
Mr.
Sanjay Patel talked about the latest advances in clinical research in
India and the regulatory constrains. He opined that India will be the
hub of clinical research with right regulatory environment due to the
availability of highly skilled technical resource and low cost. Mr.
Raghavendra Kalmadi, Director- CDM, made presentations on the importance
of clinical data management and compared Indian and International
scenario in clinical research. Mr.Kripesh Krishnan, Manager-CDM, spoke
on pharmacovigilance, drug safety, adverse drug effects and serious
adverse effects.
Mr.
Sanjay Patel offered to extend advanced training in CDM to the students
of the college at their facility in Bangalore. The executives from
quintiles will be visiting the institution periodically to update the
students and staff in this area.
Dr.
B. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean, K.S.Hegde Medical Academy inaugurated
the seminar. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Bhandary said that India is
set to emerge as a global centre of excellence for clinical Research by
2020. Dr. C.S.Shastry, Principal welcomed the gathering and thanked the
Quintiles team for offering to extend the training programme for the
students of NGSMIPS. He invited Quintiles to be a part of institutional
development process. Dr. Ishwar Bhat, Head, Department of Pharmaceutical
Chemistry and the convener of the seminar briefed about the seminar and
its objectives.
Dr.
Jennifer Fernandes delivered Vote of Thanks and Miss Jessica anchored
the programme. The seminar was attended by over 150 delegates.
