“The Times of Civil” Quiz - NMAMIT

The following is a detailed summary of the “The Times of Civil” quiz, organized by The Institution of Engineers (India) Students Chapter in association with ISTE and the Dept. of Civil Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte.

The event was conducted on 5th October2016, from 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM. The venue for the event was “Sambhram” auditorium, located within the campus. Registrations: A total of 53 teams registered for the event with most of the participants registered well in advance.Each team comprising of 2 members. Event details:The Quiz consisted of 4 rounds, as follows;

· Preliminary round: This was a pen-and-paper round. Each team was given a sheet, consisting of 30questions. Teams were allotted 15 minutes to complete the round. The sheets were collected and scored as per the answer key.

The top 5 teams were selected, as per their scores, to participate in the next rounds. · Second round (“Pict-o-mania!”): The second round consisted of picture identification.Each team was shown 3 slides each of various equipments used in the field of Civil engineering, and wereasked to identify the equipment. For every correct answer, a total of 10 points wereawarded.

· Third round (“Choose your Field”)The third round gave the participants the freedom to choose the questions they would like to answer. Each team was allowed to choose a subject of interest from a list of fields displayed related to Civil engineering. Each subject consisted of 5 questions. Each correct answer was given 10 points.

· Final round (Buzzer round): The final round consisted of a series of questions asked by the host, the team pressing the buzzer first getting the chance to answer. 20 points were awarded for every correct answer. However, 5 marks were deducted for every incorrect answer.

Out of the five qualified teams, the teams with top two scores after the final round were selected as the winners and the runners. A cash prize of Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 along with certificates were awarded to the winners and runners up respectively. As a token appreciation, certificates were provided for the remaining three qualified teams.
