National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28 February each year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman on 28 February 1928. For his discovery, Sir C.V. Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. This year Department of Physics celebrated ‘National Science Day’ at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte by organizing lecture series by eminent speakers, Dr. Prasad Vishnubhotla, Principal Research Scientist, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and Dr. Bhargavi S.G. Astrophysicist, Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research (PPISR), Bangalore on 27th and 28th February, 2017. The topics of the talks were as under:
