International Day For Children With Disability Celebration Report - ABSMIDS

The Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry celebrated the World Disability Day on 3rd December, 2017 in KSHEMA auditorium, A.B Shetty Memorial Insitute of Dental Sciences, in association with the Nitte- Special Child Care (N-SPECC) Centre and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana, Mangalore South Zone, Government of Karnataka. N-SPECC is Nitte Special Child Care project initiated by Nitte University in association with Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana with a vision to provide the best of multidisciplinary treatment free of cost for children with special health care needs.

This programme was attended by around 150 children, their parents and special teachers from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana. The inauguration began with a skit which introduced N-SPECC to the audience. Dr. Prashanth Shetty highlighted pediatric related issues and Ms. Meghana Baliga addressed the problems encountered in physiotherapy for children with special health care needs. The Chief Guest for the function was Sri.Kishor Alva, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Adani group, spoke in admiration of the will power of these children and their families and how they can be channelized to achieve great heights. He promised to support our center to make it reach functional to greater heights, also to reach out to many more children who are in need. It also marked the attendance of various other guests like, Prof. Dr. Sathish Kumar Bhandary B, Vice chancellor, Nitte university; Prof. (Dr.) U.S. Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean, ABSMIDS; Major (Dr.) Shivakumar Hiramet, KSHEMA, Smt. Geetha Shanbhagh, BRC; Prof. (Dr.) Amitha M. Hegde, H.O.D, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry & President, N-SPECC center; Prof. (Dr) Amarshree A Shetty, Professor, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Secretary, NSPECC center.

Inaugration of Special child dental clinic in NSPECC center was done, this day also marked the distribution of 2 wheel chairs, 6 CP chairs, 1 water bed and 5 spectacles to the needy who had no access to the same. The day then saw various sports and cultural competitions for both the children and their parents, who participated with great enthusiasm and gusto.

We are celebrating Nitte Special Child (N-SPECC) week from 4th December to 9th December 2017 providing free medical and dental check up at K.S Hegde Medical College and A.B Shetty Memorial institute of dental Sciences, Nitte University, Deralakatte, Mangalore.
