News from ABSMIDS | CDE program

The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology conducted a CDE program in hybrid mode under the aegis of Indian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP). This program was initiated in August to commemorate “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” and culminated on 16th September 2022. 

The program was conducted at Avishkar, ABSMIDS and the theme was “Empowering program to Ace the basics in Dentistry”. 

The chief guest for the event was Prof.(Dr.) Shailaja. S. Moodithaya, Dept. of Physiology, KSHEMA. Prof (Dr.) Sukanya Shetty, Head, Dept. of Biochemistry, KSHEMA was the Guest of Honour. IAOMP Office Bearers, Prof (Dr) Sushmitha Saxena, President (IAOMP), Prof. (Dr.) Vishnu Das Prabhu, Vice President (IAOMP) and Prof. (Dr.) SRK Nandan, Treasurer (IAOMP) were present. 

Resource persons invited for the day were Dr. Amitha Juanita Lewis, Alumni of ABSMIDS from Dept. of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, MCODS Mangalore and Dr. Jayasekharan V.P, Reader, Dept.of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Kannur Dental College, Kannur. 

Dr.Amitha Juanita Lewis spoke on the topic - Basics to Clinics: Deciphering Histology for Dental Practice Break and Dr. Jayasekharan V.P on Learn to Earn. 

Tri-color Dent O Art competition was held for face painting & cloth painting and a short film on the topic “Dentists as Warriors” was screened. 

The inaugural program started with an invocation and welcome skit by I BDS students, followed by lighting of the lamp. Prof. (Dr.) Sreelatha S.V, HoD, Oral Pathology welcomed the gathering and gave an insight to the program. Vice Principal Prof (Dr.) Mithra Hegde presided over the program. Winners of the ‘Tricolour Dent O art’ Competition were announced. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Urvashi A Shetty, Reader, Dept. of Oral Pathology, ABSMIDS. 










193 delegates participated in the CDE program which included staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students from ABSMIDS and neighboring colleges - Yenepoya, Srinivas, MCODS Mangalore, A.J Institute of Dental Sciences and KVG Dental College. Delegates from Haryana, Tamilnadu, Sangli, Delhi and Kerala also participated. 

Many innovative learning programs like Dumb Charades & Quiz and fun filled activities like Rangoli, Fruit carving were conducted post lunch. Students enthusiastically participated in all the learning activities and competitions.
