The SDG Cell of Nitte DU in collaboration with the Alumni Association of Nitte DU organized a lecture on “Sustainable Development of the Coastal Economy in India: An Assessment” on 19th October 2022. Prof. (Dr) Chethan Hegde, Head, Dept. of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, ABSMIDS delivered the opening remarks. Dr.Gopinath Thilak, Reader, Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Coordinator of Alumni Association, ABSMIDS welcomed the gathering. Ms. Akanksha, Intern invoked the blessings of the almighty with a prayer. Dr. Anupama Prasad D, Reader, Dept.of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge and Coordinator for SDG Chapter 17, introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Ramachandra Bhatta, Former Emeritus Scientist (Economics), Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Former Professor, College of Fisheries, Mangalore. He spoke about Sustainable Developmental Goals in general to create awareness about each goal to the audience from various levels, including alumni of the institution. He also emphasized on SDG 14 in particular and how it is affecting the lives of fishermen in coastal region. He shed light on the stagnation of resources and how sharing the resources could effectively improve the lives of people below the poverty line, government policies & funds which are available, blue economy & blue growth initiatives. Dr. Anupama Prasad D moderated the session and delivered the vote of thanks.
