The Research Cell of Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO) in collaboration with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), organised a one-day Workshop on Media Responsibility in Suicide Prevention on 6th September 2022.
Between 4th and 10th September, the world observes suicide prevention week. The theme for this year was, "Creating Hope through Action".
In her talk, Ms. Lekshmi Vimala (PhD Scholar, Dept. of Psychiatric Social Work, NIMHANS, Bengaluru), resource person said there was a great need to sensitize media students on ethical and responsible reporting. She was assisted by Mr. Bharath also a PhD Scholar at the Dept. of Psychiatric Social Work, NIMHANS.
Dr. Anitha Shenoy, Sr. Resident, Dept. of Psychiatry, KS Hegde Medical Academy was the Guest of Honour and spoke about the importance of mental health and students' well-being.
Prof. Raviraj, Head, NICO, welcomed the gathering. Dr Anisha, Coordinator of the Research Cell, proposed the vote of thanks.
Media students of NICO, faculties, media persons and students from neighboring colleges participated in the workshop.
