The gut forms a vital niche for the survival and replication of drug-resistant gut pathogens viz E. coli and Salmonella; However, the role of gut conditions on drug-resistant and sensitive gut pathogens is poorly understood.
From the Division of Infectious Diseases (AMR), Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER), Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mr Vankadari Aditya & co-authors and Ms Akshatha & co-authors under the guidance of Dr Deekshit conducted a multidisciplinary investigation on the effect of infection related gut conditions on survival, replication and virulence gene expression of E. coli and non-typhoidal Salmonella.
Their findings express concern about the positive impact of gut environmental conditions on gut pathogens rather than detrimental effects. The two different investigations were published in renowned journals of international repute, i.e. International Journal of Environmental Research & Public Health and Archives of Microbiology.
