News from NUCSER | National Cancer Awareness Day

National Cancer Awareness Day was observed on 7th November to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Nobel-prize winning scientist Madame Curie for her work on nuclear energy and radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer. 

This year, NUCSER observed National Cancer Awareness Day by organizing a solidarity walk from Paneer campus to Deralakatte junction and an interactive session by Dr Vinay Kumar, Onco-surgeon, KSHEMA. More than 250 volunteers, students and staff participated in the walk. The solidarity walk was followed by a lecture on breast cancer screening awareness by Dr Vinay Kumar. In his lecture, Dr Vinay Kumar spoke about the incidence of cancer in Indian population, particularly breast cancer and also highlighted the cancer screening programs available at KS Hegde Hospital. He also emphasised on the various influencing factors that can contribute to cancer. Dr Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER welcomed Dr Vinay Kumar and the gathering. The guest of honour and the NSS Coordinator of Nitte DU, Mr Shashi Kumar Shetty highlighted the importance of conducting such programs for the benefit of young students. Dr Rama Adiga, NSS program officer of NUCSER coordinated the program and Mr Sujit, Student Council Representative of NUCSER, delivered the vote of thanks.
