News from NICO | Gandhada Gudi - A docu-feature on Karnataka’s biodiversity

Private Screening for Nitte students at PVR Cinemas, Mangalore

A private screening of the much appreciated and recently released docu-feature Gandhada Gudi was organised at PVR Cinemas, Mangalore exclusively for students of Nitte, by Nitte Institute of Communication on 9th March 2023.

The 90-minute long documentary, directed by Amoghavarsha, an award-winning wildlife photographer and filmmaker, and produced by Ashwini Puneet Rajkumar, is a visual treat, as both the director and Puneeth travel the length and breadth of Karnataka exploring the State’s biodiversity.

The docu-feature, opens with the actor along with the filmmaker setting out on a trip to capture Karnataka’s abundant wildlife, scenic beauty, water bodies and forgotten tales. The duo also broaches environmental concerns around plastic use, water conservation and deforestation. Excellent music and interesting anecdotes from his career as a child actor add a special touch to this wonderful film.

The name Gandhada Gudi has been taken from the film by the same name (released in 1973) in which Dr Rajkumar, the protagonist plays the role of an honest IFS Officer and is considered the first ever film to portray the life of forest officers on screen. Gandhada Gudi also happens to be Puneet’s last film. A total of 117 students and staff from NICO attended the screening. An interactive session followed, with students expressing their admiration for the direction and cinematography.
