On 28th February 2026, NUCSER jointly with the SDG 5 and Gender Sensitization Cells celebrated the 98th anniversary of the National Science Day under the theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat.”
In the days leading up to the celebration, students enthusiastically participated in a range of innovative competitions including Biopixel (scientific photography), Science Through Art, Beyond the Lab Bench (research storytelling), Lab-Logic-Quest, Chronoforma, Spark Tank, and SciVerse. These activities supported by the Institutional Innovation Council, encouraged scientific creativity, interdisciplinary thinking and effective communication beyond the traditional classroom setting.
Dr. Vivek Tripati, Coordinator, SDG 5 Cell, highlighted science as a driving force for societal progress. Dr. Praveen Kumar Shetty, Director (R&D), Nitte DU, spoke on the enduring relevance of the Raman Effect and urged students to cultivate curiosity and pursue meaningful research. Dr. Suma Ballal, Dy. Registrar, Nitte DU, emphasised the significance of the day and the importance of women’s leadership in science.
Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr) Anju Shukla, HoD, Medical Genetics, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, was felicitated for her contributions to science and medicine. Dr. Shukla described science as a universal pursuit of truth and stressed on integrity, discipline and perseverance, especially for aspiring women scientists.
The event also featured a prize distribution ceremony recognising winners of the pre-event competitions. In his presidential address, Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER, drew an analogy to the Raman Effect, comparing the scattering of light to the transformative impact of women scientists across diverse fields. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Neetha Nirupam, followed by an engaging guest lecture by Dr. Anju Shukla on rare disorder research.
National Science Day 2026 at NUCSER stood as a vibrant celebration of scientific inquiry, inclusivity and inspiration, reaffirming the vital role of women in shaping a Viksit Bharat.
