A Panel Discussion on Psychiatry and Management at the Institute

The Institute has organized a Panel Discussion on “Waking up to Possibilities: Where Psychiatry and Management Meet” on 23rd November, 2013. The panelists were drawn from the fields of psychiatry and management. The experts include Dr. Parameshwara Deva, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology, Masha University, Malaysia, Dr. Satheesh Rao, Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, Kshema, Mangalore, Dr. Naveen Chandra, Director, Nitte Psychiatry Centre, Dr. Sudhir Raj K., Dr. Mohsin Ahmed, Miss. Akshaya, from JKSHIM, Nitte. Dr. K. Sankaran, Director of the Institute moderated the discussion. The panel discussion was a multi-disciplinary meet that tried to bridge the gap between psychiatry and management.



What was emerged in the discussion was a total consensus among the experts about the theme of their respective disciplines. Psychiatry is moving from the clinical treatment of diseases to more of home relationships. The experts also viewed that it is important to be innovative, creative and interpersonal in our mindsets. The discussion centered around positive psychology. The experts felt that there is an urgent need to train the faculty members of management disciplines in counseling, peer group evaluation and other related life enhancing techniques. The experts came to the conclusion that students need to be treated as the extended family members. The affective and cognitive behaviors of individuals were very much highlighted in the panel discussion.
