Nitte University featured in Japanese Newspaper for strengthening India-Japan Talent Pathways

Mangaluru, India: Nitte University has been featured in Yamagata Shimbun (dated 31/05/2026), a leading regional newspaper in Japan, for its contribution to developing highly skilled talent and supporting workforce requirements in Japan through international academic and industry collaboration. The article highlights a partnership between Yamagata Prefecture and Nitte University that is helping connect talented graduates with employment opportunities in Japan. As Japanese industries continue to address workforce shortages, Indian engineering graduates are increasingly being recognized for their technical expertise, adaptability and professional commitment.

According to the report, Nitte University has been actively supporting student placements with Japanese companies since 2020. To date, more than 300 graduates have secured employment opportunities in Japan, reflecting the growing confidence of Japanese employers in the quality of talent emerging from the University. The newspaper notes that Yamagata Prefecture established a cooperative relationship with Nitte University to facilitate the recruitment of highly skilled graduates, particularly in engineering and technology-related fields. Through this initiative, companies in the prefecture have successfully recruited Nitte graduates and the number of Indian professionals employed in the region continue to increase.

A significant portion of the article focuses on the positive experiences of Nitte graduates working in Japan. Among those featured is Adesh Chandrashekar (22), a Nitte University graduate currently employed at the Yonezawa Factory of Sanyo Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Yamagata Prefecture. Working in product quality management and quality assurance, Adesh shared that his aspiration to work in Japan was driven by the country's reputation for excellence in manufacturing. The article also highlights Chetan Poojari (24), another Nitte graduate employed at the company. Reflecting on his experience, Chetan noted that the supportive work environment and strong team culture motivate him to perform at his best. He expressed his desire to take on greater responsibilities in the future, including involvement in new material inspections and product development processes.

The feature further reports that company leadership has been highly impressed with the calibre of Nitte graduates. Kotaro Kurosaka, President of Sanyo Machinery Manufacturing Co., remarked that the students recommended by the University are carefully selected and possess the qualities needed to succeed in the workplace. The company plans to recruit more graduates from Nitte University in the coming months and sees them as future contributors and leaders within the organisation.

With nearly 30,000 students across engineering, medical and allied disciplines, Nitte University continues to strengthen its global engagement through academic excellence, industry partnerships and international career pathways. The collaboration featured in the newspaper has been supported by the efforts of Dr Harikrishna Bhat, Director (International Collaborations) at Nitte University, who has been involved in guiding students towards career opportunities in Japan and Ms Yasuko Sato, who has contributed to recruitment support and Japanese language learning initiatives. Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman to Deliver Inaugural Nitte Vinaya Hegde Oration

Nitte University will host the inaugural Nitte Vinaya Hegde Oration on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, at 3:30 PM at the K S Hegde Auditorium, Deralakatte, Mangaluru. The keynote address will be delivered by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India, on the theme “Viksit Bharat – Vision for 2047.” Her address is expected to offer vital insights into India’s developmental aspirations, economic transformation, and the roadmap toward becoming a developed nation by the centenary of its independence.

The Nitte Vinaya Hegde Oration has been instituted as a prestigious annual lecture series to honor the vision, leadership, and enduring contributions of the late Justice K S Hegde and the legacy of institution-building associated with him. The series aims to bring together distinguished national leaders, thinkers, policymakers, and public intellectuals to engage with contemporary issues of national importance.

The program will be presided over by Justice N. Santosh Hegde, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and former Lokayukta of Karnataka. Guests of Honor include Shri U. T. Khader, Hon’ble Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, and Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada. The event will also be graced by Mr. Vishal Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University and President of Nitte Education Trust; Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor; and Dr. M. S. Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor.

South zone interuniversity chess tournament

The Men’s Chess Team of Nitte University secured an impressive 14th place among the 78 participating teams at the AIU South Zone Inter-University Chess Tournament, held at Bishop Heber College, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu from 2nd to 5th March 2026.

All the team members delivered commendable performances throughout the tournament. Mr. Dhanush Ram of 1st MBBS was awarded the Best Player on Board No. 3 for his outstanding performance.

Nitte University organizes Electric Vehicle Rally to promote Sustainable Transportation

The Sustainable Development Cell and the NSS Unit of Nitte University jointly organised a rally of Electric Vehicles (EVs) on 18th November, 2025. The rally, which started from the medical college campus in Deralakatte, proceeded to the Paneer campus, a distance of approximately three kilometers, to raise awareness among the public about sustainable and eco-friendly transportation. The rally was flagged off by Ms. Najma Farooqi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP-Traffic), Mangaluru, 

Addressing the gathering, she highlighted the significance of the three E’s of transportation - Educate, Engineer, and Enforce - as essential pillars for ensuring safe and sustainable mobility. Dr. Suma Ballal, Deputy Registrar and Chief Coordinator of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Cell, spoke of the various sustainable initiatives executed by the University, in alignment with global sustainability goals.

The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from the University staff owning electric vehicles, including Dr. Preetham Shenoy M, Mr. Chethan Subramanya, Dr. M S Ravi, Dr. Caren, Dr. Aditya, Dr. Remya, Dr. Swathi, Dr. Varsha Shetty, Dr. Ganaraj Kulamarva, Ms. Smitha S Rao, Dr. Murali Shankar Bhat, Dr. Akhila Bhandarkar and Dr. Anil Shetty.

The program began with a warm welcome from Prof. (Dr) Krishna Sharan, HoD, Radiotherapy & Oncology. Dr. Vinayaka B Shet, Member Secretary, SDG Cell and Mr. Shashikumar Shetty, NSS Coordinator, Nitte University were present.

Mangaluru witnessed a defining moment in its growth journey on 30 October 2025 as the ET Now Business Conclave and Awards 2025 - Mangaluru Edition unfolded at the TMA Pai International Convention Centre. The event, themed around India’s ambition to become a $7-trillion economy by 2030, brought together an impressive assembly of policymakers, industry experts, entrepreneurs and academic leaders who deliberated on Karnataka’s evolving role in driving inclusive, data-led and sustainable growth. As the official Knowledge Partner for this prestigious conclave, Nitte University played a central role in shaping the conversations, reaffirming its commitment to the vision of positioning Mangaluru as India’s emerging Silicon Beach - a coastal city where education, entrepreneurship and innovation converge to create a thriving ecosystem of opportunity.




The conclave took place against the backdrop of Karnataka’s impressive contribution of nearly 8.9% to India’s GDP and its continuing emergence as a nucleus for innovation and enterprise. Chief guests Captain Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament from Dakshina Kannada and UT Khader, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, set the stage for the day’s proceedings by highlighting the region’s growing importance in the national economic narrative. Their remarks resonated with the audience, underlining the urgency of fostering collaboration between institutions, industry and innovators to ensure that Karnataka remains at the forefront of India’s growth story.




Among the highlights of the day was the dynamic panel discussion titled Tomorrow’s Talent with Today’s Trailblazers, moderated by three outstanding Nitte University students - Ms Dhriti Shetty from Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management (JKSHIM), Mr Rohan Pinto from Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research (NUCSER) and Mr Shasankh Kamat from NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT). The student moderators led an engaging dialogue with CXO panellists Ajml Yenepoya, Managing Director of Unity Care and Health Services Pvt Ltd; Gurudatta Shenoy, Managing Partner of Mukund MGM Realty and Athmika Amin, Executive Director of JV International Pvt Ltd. Together, they explored how innovation, adaptability and purpose are shaping leadership in rapidly changing industries. The conversation was marked by candour and vision, and it reflected the confidence and preparedness of the next generation of professionals emerging from Nitte’s multidisciplinary campuses. The panel’s insights into leadership, talent development and regional growth echoed the larger message of the conclave, that the future of business depends as much on human ingenuity as it does on technological advancement.



A compelling moment followed with a fireside chat between Mr Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor (Administration) of Nitte University and Anuiya Yadav, National Editor, Times Network. The conversation explored the transformation of higher education in India and the need to make it accessible, adaptable and globally competitive. Mr Hegde spoke eloquently about Nitte University’s continued efforts to extend high-quality education to students in rural and Tier-II regions, aligning with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020. He highlighted the university’s success in developing industry partnerships, establishing international collaborations and nurturing Centres of Excellence in domains such as cybersecurity, health sciences and business innovation. Adding further distinction to Nitte’s participation, Dr Harsha Halahalli, Registrar of Nitte University, was featured in an exclusive ET Now podcast recorded at the venue. In a thoughtful conversation that explored leadership, research and institutional growth, he reflected on the values that have shaped Nitte University’s identity as one of India’s most respected higher education institutions. He spoke of its strong performance in national and global rankings, its commitment to employability and placement readiness and its remarkable contribution to healthcare through the Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital and its 23 satellite health centres. Dr Harsha also emphasised the university’s inclusivity and diversity, describing how students from across India and abroad, find at Nitte, a community that nurtures intellectual ambition and social responsibility in equal measure.




The evening reached a celebratory peak when Nitte University was honored with the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Education & Institutional Innovation award. The recognition celebrated the University’s transformative efforts in making global education accessible to local communities and its commitment to fostering a culture of innovation, compassion and excellence. Dr Harsha Halahalli, Registrar of Nitte University, received the award on behalf of the institution.

The conclave also brought together influential voices from across business and industry, including Dharmendra B Mehta of CREDAI Karnataka, Arun Prabha of Mangaluru Smart City Ltd, Dinesh Pai of Hangyo Ice Cream, Dion Monteiro of Rohan Corporation, Rohith Bhat of wrkwrk, 99Games and Robosoft, and Pradeep Jhunjhunwala of AWS. Nitte (Deemed to be University) salutes the Indian Armed Forces

Nitte (Deemed to be University) organized an event on 13th May 2025 at its Mangalore campus to express appreciation for the services rendered by the Indian Armed Forces. Students, staff, and members of the public participated in the programme. A special feature of the event was the presence of fourteen ex-service personnel who are now part of the Nitte University community.

Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Chancellor, Sri N. V. Hegde, recalled instances in the past where the Armed Forces had protected the sovereignty of the nation and commended their professionalism in responding to recent cross-border challenges. He expressed gratitude to the soldiers and conveyed hope for lasting peace. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. M. S. Moodithaya, who addressed the gathering, acknowledged the dedication of the Indian Armed Forces and appreciated the leadership of Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi in sending a clear message about India’s commitment to counter terrorism. He remarked that peace is sustained when a nation is prepared to defend it.

Air Commodore S. K. Pai (Retd), currently serving at Nitte (Deemed to be University), highlighted the effective coordination between the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the executive arm of the government during the ongoing conflict. He reiterated that men and women in uniform consistently place the safety, honour, and well-being of the nation and its citizens above their own.

The event served as a meaningful occasion to recognise and thank the Armed Forces and to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation.

Nitte University earns Green, Energy and Environment Audit Certifications for its Environmental Sustainability Practices

Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, was awarded the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) certification for its exemplary environmental sustainability practices, following the successful completion of comprehensive Green, Energy and Environment Audits. The NABCB certified audits were conducted for the year 2024. This recognition reinforced the university’s commitment to environmental responsibility and resource efficiency, reflecting its alignment with national accreditation standards under NAAC's Criteria 7. A comprehensive audit was conducted to thoroughly examine every aspect of the university. It encompassed a wide range of measurements and analyses, with a specific focus on energy consumption, water usage, resource utilization, waste management and sustainable practices. The objective was to assess actual losses and identify potential savings, with the broader aim of enhancing the university's overall environmental performance.

The audit team noted that the university’s policies and systems for energy saving were ‘excellent’ and that its infrastructure reflected a strong emphasis on sustainability. The Mangalore campus houses a 519.69 KWp solar power plant, a significant contributor to renewable energy on site. The campus has also implemented advanced lighting systems, monitored HVAC efficiency and adopted intelligent water management solutions, all aimed at minimising environmental impact.

In addition to infrastructure, the university has institutionalised sustainable practices through policy and education. Waste generated on campus is managed through a combination of recycling, responsible disposal and reduction strategies. The lush greenery across the premises contributes to improved air quality and supports local biodiversity. The university also runs ongoing environmental awareness initiatives, involving students and staff in plantation drives, energy-saving campaigns and campus cleanliness programmes.

With commendable sustainability practices across its campuses, Nitte University continues to position itself as a responsible and forward-thinking institution. Its approach goes beyond regulatory compliance, reflecting a deeper commitment to environmental stewardship. By integrating sustainable development goals into both academic and administrative functions, the university is contributing meaningfully to the creation of a greener, cleaner and more environmentally conscious academic ecosystem.

National Youth Conference

he NSS Unit of Nitte DU in collaboration with the Akanksha Charitable Trust organized a 2-day National Youth Conference on 11th & 12th January 2025 at Avishkar, ABSMIDS. The event attracted over 300 participants from Karnataka & neighbouring states from Engineering, Commerce, Arts and Science background.

The conference featured keynote addresses by 10 renowned Founders & CEOs of start-ups, sharing their insights on entrepreneurship, leadership and innovation and three panel discussions on youth development, innovation and industry trends. The Hackathon provided participants the chance to collaborate and solve real-world problems, showcasing their creativity. The interactions between delegates, CEOs and moderators created a rich environment for networking and knowledge exchange.

The NSS Unit and Akanksha Charitable Trust volunteers made the event an impactful experience for everyone involved.

News from Nitte (DU) | Republic Day Celebrations

Nitte University celebrated the 76th Republic Day at the Glass House, Medical Sciences Complex, Deralakatte on 26th January 2025. Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research coordinated the event which was attended by more than 700 people including university officials, HoIs, functional directors, faculty members, students, NCC cadets and students from constituent colleges.

Prof (Dr) G Sriniketan, Director (Technical Research), Nitte University graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte DU presided over the function. Dr Harsha Halahalli, Registrar, Nitte (DU) extended a warm welcome to the gathering emphasizing how, over the years, various amendments have ensured that the Constitution remains inclusive, catering to the evolving needs of the society. The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag in coordination with the NCC Naval wing led by Cadet Sampath Kumar under the guidance of Col BS Ghivari, Asst. Director, Student Affairs, Associate NCC Officer Sub. Lt. Prashanth Kamath and Subedar Major and Honorary Captain Amrik Singh.

Prof Srinikethan highlighted the importance of education in nation-building and shared his experience in witnessing how the nation has made progress in the last few decades. Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya appreciated team NUCSER for their efforts in meticulously organizing the event. He reflected on the significance of Republic Day and the importance of upholding the values amended in the Constitution. He concluded his talk by encouraging students to become responsible citizens and contribute towards nation-building in all spheres.

The event also featured the Prize Distribution ceremony for the Aqualens Photography Competition, which aimed to promote water conservation through photography. The formal event was followed by a cultural program, that showcased Unity in Diversity through performances by the students, with each institute representing a state of India, exhibiting the diversity & richness of Indian culture and contributions towards making India a sovereign democratic republic and keeping the essence of the theme Swarnim Bharath: Virasat aur Vikas. The event was compered by Dr Akshatha and Ms Varsha from NUCSER.

National Cadet Corps (NCC) training

The Rowing Boat Simulator Training was conducted for the NCC cadets of the Nitte University, on 13th December 2024 at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal & 6 Karnataka Naval NCC Unit, Udupi to enhance the physical fitness, teamwork and basic rowing skills, using specialized rowing simulators. The training activities included introduction to the rowing techniques and simulator equipment, basic posture and rowing stroke mechanics and hands-on training on the simulator for individual cadets.

Total number of participants were 9. The trainer for the session was Sub. Lt. V. Prashanth Kamath.

National Integration Camp

The State NSS Cell, Dept. of Youth Empowerment & Sports, Government of Karnataka, in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of NSS, Govt. of India, Bangalore and National Service Scheme, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangalore organized a National Integration Camp from 12th to 18th February 2024 at Nitte University campus, Deralakatte, Mangalore.

Around 150 NSS volunteers and 6 Program Officers from Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Telangana and Maharashtra registered for the National Integration Camp.

Dr. Pratap Lingaiah, State NSS Officer from the State NSS Cell, GoK inaugurated the camp and Shri. D. Carthigueane, Regional Director, Regional Directorate of NSS, GoI was the chief guest. Prof. (Dr.) M S Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University; Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Registrar and Mr. Shashi Kumar Shetty, NSS Coordinator graced the occasion.

Activities during the 7-day camp included - Talks on waste management, dental hygiene, stress management, First-aid and BLS program, workshops on hospitality services, self-defense, photography & videography, bird watching at the new Deralakatte campus etc. The National Integration Camp concluded with a valedictory function on 18th February, where prizes were distributed to the winners of various cultural events.
