As a part of N-SPECC, The Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, along with the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Department of Paediatrics, K. S. Hegde Hospital celebrated National Nutrition Week on 08.09.2017. Around 100 normal and 20 differently abled children were invited from various schools in Mangalore to attend this program.
The program began with a prayer and lighting of the lamp, after which the guests of honour, Prof. (Dr) M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University and Prof. (Dr) S. Ramananda Shetty, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University addressed the gathering. Prof. (Dr.) Sateesh Kumar Bhandary, Dean, KSHEMA Chief Guest and Prof. (Dr.) U.S. Krishna Nayak, Principal & Dean, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Guest of honour and Prof. (Dr.) P.S. Prakash, Vice Dean, KSHEMA Major (Dr) Shivakumar Hiramet, Deputy Medical Officer, KSHEMA, Prof. (Dr) Amitha M. Hegde, Sr. Prof. & Head of the department, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Prof.(Dr) Vijaya Shenoy, H.O.D.. Department of Pediatrics, KSHEMA, Dr. Prerana Hegde, Dr. Seema Pavaman, Dr. Sharmila Bhat are resource person. This was followed by a talk on ‘The Role of Diet in Maintaining Good Oral Health and Hygiene’ given by Prof. (Dr) Amitha M. Hegde, Sr. Prof. & Head of the department, Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry and President, N-SPECC Centre.
Later the guest speaker gave a talk on “Optimal infant and young children feeding practices-better child health”. The children were given snacks and had a fun question-answer session after the talk.
