A guest lecture on ‘Ayurveda - The Ancient Scientific Wisdom’ was organised by the Dept. of Pharmacognosy, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mangalore on 10th March 2020.
Dr. T. Shridhara Bairy, former Professor & Head, Dept. of Dravyaguna, SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi was the guest speaker.
The Principal Dr. C.S. Shastry introduced Dr. Bairy to the gathering. In his speech, Dr. Bairy emphasized the significance of Ayurvedic system of medicine and described how the Doctrine of signature plays a crucial role in identifying drugs in Ayurveda and explained the difference between dravya (drug) and oushadha (medicine). He explained good collection practices that must be followed in Ayurveda, to ensure efficacy and safety of dravya by citing examples of good practices adopted in his clinic. He concluded the talk by emphasizing the need to utilize indigenous plants. The session was attended by 6th semester B.Pharm students. Dr. Santanu Saha, Head, Dept. of Pharmacognosy delivered the vote of thanks.
