The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology of AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences conducted a CDE and a Workshop titled ‘Update on Surgical Head and Neck Pathology’ to hone the diagnostic skills of staff & students on 6th January 2023 at the college.
Prof (Dr) Suresh Rao, Director & Chief Radiation Oncologist, Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO) was the Chief Guest for the event. Prof (Dr.) Muktha R Pai, Dept. of Onco Pathology, MIO and Dr Vinay Kumar J Rajendra from the Dept. of Oncology, KSHEMA were the resource persons invited for the day.
The inaugural program started with an invocation, followed by lighting of the lamp. The welcome address was given by Prof (Dr) Sreelatha SV, HoD, Oral Pathology followed by opening remarks from Prof (Dr) U S Krishna Nayak Principal & Dean, ABSMIDS.
Prof (Dr) Suresh Rao spoke elaborately about the scope of dentistry in head and neck cancer pre & post-treatment.

Both the CDE lectures were very interactive. Prof. (Dr.) Muktha R Pai conducted the workshop with demonstrations on grossing and histopathological analysis of excisional biopsy after the lectures.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Mangesh Shenoy P, Reader, Dept. of Oral Pathology, ABSMIDS. Over 100 delegates including undergraduate & postgraduate students and faculty from ABSMIDS, Yenepoya Dental College, A J Institute of Dental Sciences and Manipal Institute of Dental Sciences MCODS (Manipal) participated in the program.
