News from NUCSER | A Day as a Scientist

As part of the 'A Day as a Scientist' initiative launched last year, Grade X and XII students from Manipal School, Mangaluru, visited the research labs at NUCSER on 4th September 2024. This program offers high school students the opportunity to experience scientific research firsthand. Faculty members & research scholars of NUCSER introduced the students to a wide array of research areas in biomedical science. While the Grade X students were taken on a tour of the facility, the Grade XII students were specifically engaged for demonstration of important molecular techniques such as PCR, cloning and electrophoresis. The program provided insights into the handling of microorganisms, foundational concepts of biotechnology & nanotechnology and the application of biomedical science in environmental health and food technology. Students were also introduced to non-mammalian animal models such as Zebrafish and Drosophila and their applications in biomedical research.
