Outcome Based Dental Curriculum Framework - ABSMIDS

The workshop on ‘OUTCOME BASED DENTAL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK’ was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Director, Curriculum Development Cell, Nitte (Deemed to be University) on 22nd May 2019. It was conducted on 22nd & 23rd May 2019 at Trimshathi Bhavan, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences.

The University Grants Commission of India, through the Quality Mandate policy, has initiated Outcome Based Curriculum Framework in all Universities. Such structured curriculum with learning outcomes, student-centric methods in teaching process and reforms in assessment are also parts of key indicators of the revised NAAC accreditation process for affiliated institutions and Universities. The Medical Council of India has already implemented Competency Based Medical Education, which is based on Learning Outcomes, Domains & Competencies. In the dental education, ABSMIDS has taken a lead in developing outcome based structured curriculum, instructional designs and related assessment methods. This workshop was organised to sensitize the participants on outcome based curriculum in dental education.

The inauguration was followed by a guest lecture on ‘Education as a system - A paradigm shift in India’ by Prof. Dr. Ajay Telang, PGDHA, MHPE(Maastricht), MFDSRCPS (Glasgow), Dean & HoD, Oral Pathology, Penang International Dental College, Malaysia.

A total of 32 staff members participated in the 2-day workshop.
