News from NICO | Two-day online FDP on Media Research

A two-day online Faculty Development Programme on Media Research: Exploring approaches and opportunities was organised by the Research Cell of Nitte Institute of Communication on 15th & 16th March, 2021. The program aimed to bring together diverse voices and perspectives important to the field of media research, and to explore various possibilities and methods in response to these changes.

The programme began with a welcome address by Prof Raviraj, Head, Nitte Institute of Communication. The opening remarks were delivered by Dr. M S Moodithaya, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University).

The first session of the day was by Dr. Usharani, Retd. Professor, the University of Mysore on Planning and Writing Grant Proposals. This was followed by a session on Writing research papers for peer-reviewed journals by Dr. Buroshiva Dasgupta, Director, School of Mass Communication, Arts and Design, Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. The final session for the day, on the Importance of Media Research in Critical Social Change during a Pandemic: A case study of COVID-19 was delivered by Prof. Srinivas Melkote, Professor Emeritus, Bowling Green State University.

The second day of the programme began with a session on Critical Discourse Analysis by Dr. Sweta Mukherjee and Dr. Rolla Das, Assistant Professors, Christ University. Dr. Buroshiva Dasgupta then presented the Use of New Media Techniques in Media Research. The programme concluded with a session by Dr. Meera Baindur, Associate Professor, Manipal University, Jaipur on Research: From information to conceptualisation.

The programme was hosted on Google Meet and live-streamed on the YouTube channel of Nitte DU.
