News from NUINS | Nurse’s Day celebration

Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences celebrated Nurse’s Day under the guidance of the SNA President, Dr. Fatima D`silva and SNA Advisor, Mrs. Melba Drago on 12th May 2021.

The program began with a prayer song led by Ms Rosna Kuriakose followed by a virtual lamp lighting. The participants paid rich tributes to Florence Nightingale - the Lady with the Lamp, by playing a short video clip on the life & works of the foundational philosopher of modern nursing.

Mrs. Melba Drago, SNA advisor, delivered the welcome address. This was followed by unfolding of Nurse’s Day Theme 2021 - Nurses: A voice to lead; a vision for future healthcare which was done virtually using an animation video.

The Chief Guest of the program was Mrs Jasmine Sarita Vas, Principal, Fr. Muller’s School of Nursing, Mangalore. She mentioned about the importance and responsibility of nurses and nursing students in the healthcare settings and also stressed on the importance of providing them with good working conditions & amenities, for their welfare and wellbeing.

Prof. Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, NUINS, addressed the gathering with her motivating and encouraging words to the COVID warriors - the nurses.

Besides the faculty and students of NUINS, Col. Cecily PJ, Nursing Superintendent; Major Dr Shivkumar Hiremath, Medical Superintendent; Deputy Nursing Superintendents; Nursing Supervisors; Ward In-Charges, Staff nurses of Justice K.S. Hegde Hospital also attended the program.

After the formal function, Ms. Ann Maria of 3rd year B.Sc Nursing melodiously presented a song on the nurses’s day theme, which was followed by felicitation of nurses through a video clip. An eastern dance was performed by Ms. Sona Siby and virtual games organised by the SNA, added colour to the event. Ms. Merlin George of 3rd BSc (N) was the Master of Ceremony on the occasion. Ms. Fathima Wafah, SNA Vice President delivered the vote of thanks.
