News from NIPT | Veerangana: Swaraksha for Women

The Women’s Cell of NIPT and Gender Sensitization Cell (GSC), of Nitte DU in association with Swaraksha for Women Trust conducted an event ‘Veerangana: Swaraksha for Women’ which focused on self-defence techniques for women.  The event was open to all faculties, undergraduate and first year postgraduate physiotherapy students. A total of 180 people were in attendance. The event was anchored by Aishwarya Nair, Assistant Professor.

The invocation ceremony was led by Ms Gana Pilinja (III year BPT) followed by a welcome address by the Principal, Dr Dhanesh Kumar K U. Opening remarks were given by the Chairperson of GSC, Prof (Dr) Shailaja Moodithaya.

The Chief Guest of the event and the Registrar of Nitte DU, Prof (Dr) Alka Kulkarni addressed the gathering with an important message of moulding oneself and using presence of mind in any situation. The resource persons were Karthik S Kateel, a Karate expert, and his mother Mrs. Shobhalata who demonstrated multiple self-defence techniques using real-life instances.

The session ended with students raising questions and sharing feedback. The vote of thanks was delivered by NIPT’s Women’s Cell Coordinator and organiser of the event Ms Neha Shetty.
