News from NUCSER | Drug Resistance in Fish pathogens

An aquatic environment, especially if it is eutrophic, provides a suitable niche for many drug-resistant bacterial pathogens to survive and multiply. 

From the Division of Infectious Diseases (AMR), Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER), Nitte University, Dr Deekshit, Dr Biswajit Maiti, Dr Krishna Kumar B, Ms Akshatha K, Ms Gellaine Pinto, Dr Iddya Karunasagar, Dr Indrani Karunasagar in collaboration with Dr Melba G. Bondad-Reantaso from Fisheries & Aquaculture Division, Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Rome, Italy published a comprehensive review that details about the rarely understood drug resistance mechanisms in aquatic fish pathogens and alternative risk mitigating strategies. It was published in a journal of international repute, “Reviews in Aquaculture”, a Wiley publication with a high impact factor and citation score.
