News from NUINS | Lamp lighting ceremony

The lamp lighting ceremony of GNM 2022 batch was held on 17th January 2023 in the University Auditorium, Paneer campus. 

The function began with a prayer song rendered by Ms. Suviksha & team. 

Ms. Cleeta Pinto, Principal, School of Nursing, NUINS welcomed the audience. This was followed by a floral tribute to the portrait of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of nursing and lamp lighting by the chief guest, Col. G Jacqueline Elizabeth & other dignitaries. The student’s lamps were lit by all the HoDs and senior faculty, as a symbol of the transfer of knowledge and skills to the budding nurses. 

Col. Elizabeth, Nursing Superintendent, Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital stressed on the importance of lamp lighting, as it is a ceremony that formally recognizes the student's entry into the nursing profession. The lamp symbolizes the light that a nurse becomes to her patients giving them hope and comfort, she said. 








Prof. Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, NUINS administered the oath to the first year GNM students Prof. Dr. Fatima Dsilva, SNA President & Principal of NUINS delivered the presidential address. She emphasized the devotion, determination and dedication that one should have as a nurse for taking good care of patients and wished the students good luck in their nursing career. 

The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Reeta Priya, Class Coordinator, I GNM. Refreshments were provided at the end of the program for all. 20 faculty members and 100 students attended the program. 

Ms. Melba Drago, SNA Advisor & Ms. Ajal Maria Mathew, SNA Vice President, NUINS were present. Ms. Anorra Lewis, SNA Secretary hosted the formal program.
