News from NUINS | ‘APATHBANDHU’ - a training program in first aid & emergency care for rural volunteers

Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, Institution Innovation Council Nitte DU, NU-MEDISIM, and Dept. of Anesthesiology & Critical Care, KSHEMA conducted ‘APATHBANDHU’ - a training program in first aid & emergency care for rural volunteers of Thokur village on 28th & 29th March 2023, sponsored by MRPL-ONGC, Mangalore.

Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte University released the Apathbandhu video. On this occasion, Shri. M Venkatesh, Managing Director, MRPL was felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor for his contribution towards social cause. Dr. Neeta Kamath, Head, Dept. of Community Health Nursing, presented a brief report on Apathbandhu training. The chief guest Shri M Venkatesh appreciated the sincere work of the trainers and the efforts taken by the college & university to organize such training programs. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary delivered the presidential address and urged the trainees to make effective use of the Apathbandhu kit. Ms. Suchithra B S, Program Coordinator, NUINS, welcomed the guests; Ms. Sarita Telma Fernandes, Assoc. Professor NUINS proposed the vote of thanks and Ms. Jeevitha Alva compered the program.

The faculty trained the 15 rural volunteers in emergency care like hand hygiene, vital signs, wound dressing, bandaging & restraining, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, management of poisonous bite, hemorrhage control, trauma care, cervical spine stabilization, shifting & transfer, management of foreign body aspiration, management of burns and convulsion. Training kits were distributed to the trainees.

Dr. G Sriniketan, President IIC, NitteDU; Dr. Prof. Fatima Dsilva, Principal, College of Nursing; Dr. Sripada Mehandale, Head, Dept. of Anesthesiology and Dr. Gayathri Bhat, Professor of Anesthesiology, KSHEMA were present on the occasion.
