A team of students from the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte under the guidance of Dr. Vidyasagar Shetty, Assistant Professor Gd-III, participated in an event ‘Catalyse Tech Innovation Challenge 2022’ organised recently by the Global Centre of Excellence for Affordable and Clean Energy, IIT Dharwad in association with SELCO Foundation. The competition was held online which involved several stages of evaluation. The team consisting of final year students of Mechanical Engineering Mr. Hrishikesh Kurunji, Mr. P Adithya Shankar, Mr. Prince Prasad and Mr. Rakshith T N have been chosen as one of the winners in this competition and were eligible for funding of Rs.1,17,500/- out of which Rs.50,000/- has been sanctioned for their project ‘Hybrid Solar-Electric Areca Nut Dryer with Dehumidifier Technology’ and Rs.67,500/- as student fellowship.
The project which was developed by the students is an arecanut dryer consisting of a unique dehumidifier technology to absorb the moisture content from the arecanut or any other product required to be dried. Recently, the project also won the ‘Best Project of the Year 2023’ at the Project Expro 2023 held at NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte.
