As a part of Sustainable Development Goals initiatives, Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research in association with the Department of Horticulture, Mangaluru conducted an awareness program on “Water conservation and Irrigation practices” at Horticulture Hall, Mangaluru on 28th December 2023. The program was attended by the farmers from in and around Mangaluru, and students of NUCSER.
Mr. Praveen K, Senior Assistant Director, Horticulture Department welcomed the gathering and gave the opening remarks. The Chief Executive Officer of DK Zilla Panchayat, Dr. Anandh K inaugurated the program and commended the organizers for their thoughtful planning in conducting the program. The Dy. Director of Horticulture, DK Zilla Panchayat, Mr H.R. Naik, emphasized the importance of water conservation and drip irrigation in agriculture. The resource person Dr. Bhavishya, Scientist, ICAR-CPCRI explained the necessity of water management and conservation practices in agriculture, emphasizing their impact on nutrient requirements, utilization, and losses. Mr. Praveen K explained the government schemes such as “PerDrop More Crop” available for farmers and delivered the vote of thanks.
The sessions were interactive wherein resource persons provided insightful answers to the questions raised by the farmers. Prof. Dr.Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER, was present at the event along with faculty members of NUCSER. Dr Akhila D S, Assistant Professor at NUCSER coordinated the event.
