In a collaborative effort to strengthen mental health awareness & support in higher education, a four-day learning and development workshop titled “Understanding our Adolescents, Suicide Prevention & Introduction to Therapeutic Counselling” was held from 18th to 21st July 2023 at Abhyuday Hall, Nitte. Sponsored by Wipfli India LLP, the event brought together educators and administrators from 12 external colleges and 4 sister organizations, attracting 54 participants.
This impactful initiative featured expert contributions from Prof. Shalini K. Sharma, a leading mental health practitioner and former head of Abhyuday; Dr. PV Bhandary, Director & Psychiatrist at Dr. AV Baliga Hospital, Udupi; and Dr. Rameela Shekhar, Director, Manashanthi Counselling Centre, Mangaluru. The collaborative sessions focused on understanding adolescent behavior, suicide prevention strategies and an introduction to therapeutic counselling, equipping educators with the knowledge and tools to foster mental well-being within academic environments.
