News from Nitte (DU) | Republic Day Celebrations

Nitte University celebrated the 76th Republic Day at the Glass House, Medical Sciences Complex, Deralakatte on 26th January 2025. Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research coordinated the event which was attended by more than 700 people including university officials, HoIs, functional directors, faculty members, students, NCC cadets and students from constituent colleges.

Prof (Dr) G Sriniketan, Director (Technical Research), Nitte University graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte DU presided over the function. Dr Harsha Halahalli, Registrar, Nitte (DU) extended a warm welcome to the gathering emphasizing how, over the years, various amendments have ensured that the Constitution remains inclusive, catering to the evolving needs of the society. The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag in coordination with the NCC Naval wing led by Cadet Sampath Kumar under the guidance of Col BS Ghivari, Asst. Director, Student Affairs, Associate NCC Officer Sub. Lt. Prashanth Kamath and Subedar Major and Honorary Captain Amrik Singh.

Prof Srinikethan highlighted the importance of education in nation-building and shared his experience in witnessing how the nation has made progress in the last few decades. Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya appreciated team NUCSER for their efforts in meticulously organizing the event. He reflected on the significance of Republic Day and the importance of upholding the values amended in the Constitution. He concluded his talk by encouraging students to become responsible citizens and contribute towards nation-building in all spheres.

The event also featured the Prize Distribution ceremony for the Aqualens Photography Competition, which aimed to promote water conservation through photography. The formal event was followed by a cultural program, that showcased Unity in Diversity through performances by the students, with each institute representing a state of India, exhibiting the diversity & richness of Indian culture and contributions towards making India a sovereign democratic republic and keeping the essence of the theme Swarnim Bharath: Virasat aur Vikas. The event was compered by Dr Akshatha and Ms Varsha from NUCSER.
