AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences marked a significant milestone with a commemorative Inauguration Ceremony, to celebrate 40 years of unwavering commitment to dental education, research and academic excellence. The day began with the unveiling of the 40th Anniversary Logo of the college by Sri. N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte University. This was followed by the inauguration of the VGST-funded Molecular Laboratory by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr) M S Moodithaya. Developed with ₹30 lakhs funding under the K-FIST Level 2 Project, this state-of-the-art facility is equipped for advanced DNA analysis, PCR, ELISA and ultra-low temperature sample storage.
Prof. (Dr) Mithra N Hegde, Principal, ABSMIDS welcomed the gathering and highlighted the institution’s accomplishments over the past four decades and outlined its aspirations for the future.
A major highlight of the event was the official introduction and launch of the brochure of the International Conference & Alumni Meet 2025 by Prof. (Dr) Chethan Hegde, HoD, Prosthodontics. Scheduled to take place from 21st to 23rd August 2025, the conference will feature six focused symposiums, eighteen industry technology platform sessions, scientific paper presentations, hands-on workshops and the much-anticipated Alumni TED Talks on Leadership and Impact.
Another significant moment was the launch of two pioneering student-led initiatives aimed at promoting undergraduate research - The “Innovate & Explore Research Club,” designed for II & III BDS students and the “Publish, Share, Inspire” Publication Club, for I year BDS students & interns. Currently, over 78 students are enrolled in the research club and 36 research teams are part of the publication club, all actively engaged in structured projects under the mentorship of faculty across specialties.
The event concluded with an inspiring address by Prof. (Dr) M S Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University who congratulated the institute on its outstanding achievements & acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the faculty, staff and students in building a legacy of excellence. He emphasized the importance of innovation, collaboration and global engagement in shaping the next chapter of ABSMIDS. Prof. (Dr) Amitha Ramesh, HoD, Periodontics delivered the vote of thanks.
