The program began with invocation by Mr. Damodar U B, Librarian, NICO. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr) C S Shastry, Director, Research & Strategy Initiatives, NGSMIPS, suggested that the college authorities expand their book collection to include not only academic subjects taught at the college but also leisure reading materials such as comics and graphic novels. He also recommended improving the library’s ambience to make it more comfortable for reading.
Prof. Vinod Aranha, Director, NIA, presided over the function. He noted that recognizing and appreciating readers is a good practice for any library and praised the librarians for their initiatives.
Guest of Honour, Dr. Moulya Baladi, Head of NICO, advised students to minimize their dependence on mobile phones and turn to books for resolving their doubts. She spoke from personal experience, having built a personal collection of more than 500 books.
