Verification activities for TB Mukt Gram Panchayat status were conducted in Dakshina Kannada district in February 2026 under the National TB Elimination Program (NTEP), supported by the Dept. of Health & Family Welfare, GoK. Two teams from KS Hegde Medical Academy, led by Dr. Ankeeta Menona Jacob, Dr. Akhilesh Shetty and Dr. Pawan Kumar, along with Community Medicine residents and officials from the District Tuberculosis Office (Sr. Treatment Supervisor & Sr. Tuberculosis Laboratory Supervisor), carried out field verification.
The teams assessed Gram Panchayats in Bantwal, Mangalore, Belthangady and Ullal Taluks, visiting 13 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and 1 Community Health Centre (CHC). The verification process evaluated indicators such as presumptive TB examination rates (>80% in villages), TB notification rates, NTEP records, active case finding, treatment success and community engagement as per NTEP guidelines. The activity strengthened medical college participation in public health initiatives and supported the Government of India’s goal of tuberculosis elimination.
