The Nitte Pharma Innovation Centre (NPIC), a flagship initiative of the NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, was formally inaugurated on 23rd April 2026, at the Paneer campus of Nitte University by Shri. Vishal Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte University in the presence of the Chief Guest Prof. P L Dharma, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University and Guests of Honour - Mr. Jatish Sheth, Director, Shrushti Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru and President, Karnataka Drug & Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association; Dr. Malar Selvaraj, Country Lead - India, Fortrea, Chennai and University Officials. The initiative aims to strengthen academia-industry collaboration, promote start-ups and provide advanced training opportunities for students in pharmaceutical sciences.
Introducing & welcoming the distinguished guests from the pharmaceutical industry & academia, Prof. (Dr) C S Shastry, Director (Research & Strategic Initiatives), NGSMIPS highlighted that NPIC is envisioned as a collaborative ecosystem rather than merely a physical facility. Prof. P L Dharma emphasized the growing importance of pharmaceutical research in modern healthcare. He underlined the transformative role of integrated research and artificial intelligence in enhancing precision, while reducing time, cost and human intervention in drug development. Dr. Malar Selvaraj, Country Lead - India, Clinical Operations at Fortrea, encouraged optimal utilization of institutional resources like NPIC and stressed the importance of curiosity, creativity and strong professional ethics in achieving excellence.

In his presidential remarks, Prof. (Dr) M Shantharam Shetty described the Centre as a vital bridge between academia & industry and encouraged students to focus on ethical and innovative pharmaceutical practices. The event was attended by eminent industry experts including Sunil Chiplunkar, Kiran Kalwadia, Hrishikesh Damle and Srivatsa Rao, along with heads of various sister institutions. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Principal, Prof. (Dr) Marina Koland.
