The NSS Unit of Nitte (Deemed to be University), in association with KS Hegde Medical Academy and Nitte Institute of Allied Health Sciences, celebrated International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2026 in BC Alva Indoor Stadium, Deralakatte. The program was organized with the objective of promoting the importance of yoga in maintaining physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Chief guest Dr. Harshitha Rao, Medical Officer, Sharada Yoga & Naturopathy Medical College, Mangalore
highlighted the significance of yoga as a holistic approach to health and emphasized the role of regular yoga practice in reducing stress, improving flexibility and enhancing overall quality of life. She encouraged students and staff to incorporate yoga into their daily routine for better physical and mental health.
The program was presided over by Prof. (Dr) Jayaprakash Shetty, Dean, Nitte Institute of Allied Health Sciences (NIAHS).
Following the inaugural session participants actively took part in a guided yoga practice session conducted by Yoga instructors. Various yogasanas, breathing exercises and meditation techniques were demonstrated and practiced. The program witnessed the participation of students, faculty members, NSS volunteers and staff from different institutions under Nitte University.
