News from NICO | Documentary Film Screening and Discussion

Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO), in association with the Nitte Film Society organised a documentary film screening and discussion titled “One Nation, One GST?” on 21 September 2026. The documentary, directed by Haleema Shiza, explored the impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on ordinary citizens, businesses, prices and public policy. Through personal narratives and visual storytelling, the film examined the relationship between taxation, economic realities and everyday experiences.

The screening was attended by students and faculty members, providing an opportunity to engage with contemporary socio-economic issues through documentary filmmaking. Following the screening, a discussion was conducted, encouraging participants to reflect on the film’s themes, filmmaking approach and the diverse perspectives surrounding GST. Dr. Moulya Baladi, Head, NICO and Mr. Prakash K, Assistant Professor, NICO were associated with the event. The program encouraged critical thinking, media literacy and meaningful discussion among students.
