In line with the World Physiotherapy Day 2026 theme, which highlights the role of physiotherapy and physical activity in prevention, management and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease and stroke, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organised the Nitte Heart Smart Screening Programme on 8th September 2026. Chief Guest, Dr. Nareshchand Hegde, CTVS Surgeon, Justice K S. Hegde Charitable Hospital inaugurated the program.
The initiative focused on promoting cardiovascular health among young adults through a structured screening and exercise-prescription program. The process included informed consent, baseline assessment, cardiovascular health screening and testing, assessment of findings and personalised exercise and lifestyle prescription. The program successfully translated the World Physiotherapy Day 2026 message into a practical preventive-health initiative, highlighting the important role of physiotherapists in cardiovascular risk identification, physical activity promotion, health education and personalised exercise prescription.
A total of 114 students aged 18-25 years from the constituent colleges of Nitte University participated in the program convened by Dr. Abeeshna Ashok, Assoc. Professor and coordinated by Mr. Arun Varghese, Asst. Professor, NIPT.
