Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy organized a Walkathon from Madani Nagar, Kuthar Junction to Deralakatte on 8th September 2026, to commemorate World Physiotherapy Day. The event aimed to spread awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse, especially among the younger generation through the campaign, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The Chief Guest for the program was Ms. Vijaykranthi, ACP South, Mangaluru and the Guests of Honour were Prof. (Dr) M Shantaram Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte DU; Prof. (Dr) M S Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor, Nitte DU and Dr. Sandeep Rai, Dean, KSHEMA.
Principal, Prof. (Dr) Dhanesh Kumar welcomed the gathering. Chief guest, Ms. Vijaykranthi, highlighted the rising rate of drug consumption among the younger generation, emphasizing its adverse effects on an individual’s physical & psychological well-being. She also discussed the legal consequences of drug use, which may include imprisonment. Following the inaugural address, a pledge against drug abuse was administered to the participants by Ms. Vijaykranthi. Ms. Samata Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.
The Walkathon was flagged off at 9:15 a.m. by the dignitaries. The event was attended by eminent personalities which included members of Belma Grama Panchayat, Committee members of Madani Nagar Masjid, Heads of Institutions / Departments, faculty and members of the press. The program concluded with an impactful dance performance by NIPT students, portraying the harmful effects of drug consumption and substance abuse.
