News from NICO | Cinema Sparks Conversation on Gender, Voice and Inclusivity

PRISM, Gender Club of Nitte Institute of Communication, in association with the Nitte Film Society, organised a short film screening and discussion on 7 October, 2026 at the University Auditorium, Paneer Campus.

The initiative aimed to create a platform for meaningful dialogue on gender issues, gender identity, gender roles, voice and inclusivity through cinema. Two short films, Juice and Valentin, were screened, presenting diverse perspectives on gender and social expectations.

The screening was followed by an interactive discussion moderated by Mr. Prakash, Assistant Professor, Nitte Institute of Communication. Dr. Moulya Balladi, Head of the Institute and Staff Coordinator of the Gender Club, along with faculty members and students, actively participated in the discussion and shared their perspectives. The session encouraged critical reflection on gender, identity, family, societal expectations and acceptance. The event highlighted cinema’s power to initiate conversations, challenge conventional perspectives and promote understanding, empathy and inclusivity among the campus community.
