Tackling Pavagada Fluorosis: A Way Out to Fix National Fluorosis Problem Expert’s Group Meeting, 04th November 2016, Nitte University

Department of Oral Biology and Genomic Studies in association with Swami Vivekananda Integrated Rural health “Centre of Shri Ramakrishna Sevashrama Pavagada Tumkuru Karnataka State India conducted a Seminar and Experts group meeting for tackling Pavagada fluorosis: A Way-out for National Health Concern” was convened at A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS) of Nitte University Deralakate, Mangalore 575018, Karnataka India.

Professor Mithra N Hedge Vice Dean of A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences gave the welcome address.

Professor Chitta Chowdhury gave the inaugural address. He informed the purpose of the initiative with a message to change the situation in Pavagada Taluk Tumkuru. He proposed areas to be worked and happy to collaborate with governmental and non-governmental agencies to tackle the problem.

Professor (Dr) Shridhar N Shetty, Director of CADSS ABSMIDS gave the importance of subject oral biology in dentistry and dental education and the role it can transform the dentists in clinical decision making. He also highlighted on the importance of field work and initiative taken by the Professor chitta Chowdhury. Professor Ganesh Shenoy, Head of Department, Public Health Dentistry from Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore spoke on his initiative and role in the Oral health concern in Karnataka and at national level. He emphasized on the issue of rain water harvesting and its benefits. He implored on all members to take rain water harvesting as one of key solution to the current problem in Pavagada taluk.He appreciated very much that Dr Chowdhury and his team to come up with fluoride map of Karnataka, so much informative, will be considered as a base-line for further intervention. Our Guest of honour Swami Japananda, Chairman, Swami Vivekananda Integrated Rural Health Centre of Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama, Pavagada, Tumkuru spoke on how the governmental agencies are ignoring the importance of public health. He is collaborating with the Nitte University Nitte Team Fluoride of Oral Biology and Genomic Studies Department at ABSMIDS, Mangalore. He gave strong message to the upcoming graduates to contribute time in the rural health centers for treating patients, which is a part of their training. He also explained in detail regarding the problem and issues existing in the Pavagada, Tumkuru. He explained his activities and external agencies involved in the 22 projects that is currently running at Swami Vivekananda Integrated Rural health Centre of Shri Ramakrishna Sevashrama Pavagada Tumkuru Karnataka State India.

The inaugural function was preceded by the seminar and expert group meeting at at A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Nitte University Deralakate-575018 Mangalore Karnataka India.

The meeting concluded with the issues existing in the Pavagada, solution to the problem, approach, practical methods to treat dental fluorosis and skeletal fluorosis, issues and solutions related to de-fluoridation plants.
