Celebration of World Food day-2019 - NUCSER

NUCSER celebrated World Food Day on 19th October 2019 at the University Auditorium, Paneer campus. World Food Day is celebrated worldwide on 16th October each year with a unique theme. The theme for 2019 was “Healthy Diet for zero hunger.”

Dr. Harsha Vardhan Batra, Former Director, Defense Food Research Laboratory, DRDO, Mysore was the chief guest for the function. Dr. Mamatha BS, Asst. Professor, NUCSER welcomed the gathering with a brief note on the importance of World Food Day. Dr. Harsha Vardhan Batra in his address, highlighted on the hunger index ranking of our country and emphasized the reason for food not reaching the community, which is primarily due to inadequate storage systems and cold chain facilities. He also briefed on his area of research on developing techniques that would enable efficient harvest and distribution of food at low cost and without preservation. He also stressed on the fact that commonsense along with scientific knowledge can help the country grow and eradicate hunger among the poor and underprivileged.

The President of the function, Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director, NUCSER, spoke on food wastage and how lack of proper storage systems is resulting in raw food items being thrown away by the farmers. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Krishna Kumar B, Asst. Professor, NUCSER. All the students, teaching and non-teaching staff of NUCSER participated in the event.
