The Nursing Education Unit (NEU) of Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a workshop on Application of Statistical Methods & Data Analysis in 2 phases, on 3rd & 14th February 2023.
The formal inauguration of the event started with a prayer song by Ms. Anagha Thomas, B.Sc Nursing student, followed by a welcome speech by Prof. Dr. Jacintha Veigas, Program Coordinator & Coordinator, NEU. The program was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Dr. Sucharitha Suresh, Assoc. Professor/Statistician, Fr. Muller Medical College along with Prof. Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, NUINS and Prof. Dr. Jacintha Veigas.
Dr. Sucharitha Sures, resource person enumerated the concepts of Statistics, the normality of data and the tests used for descriptive & inferential data analysis. Various formulas used for the sample size estimation were discussed with several scenarios.
On the second day, Prof Dr. Nalini, introduced the resource persons and welcomed the gathering. Ms. Reshma Kolar, Lecturer, Biostatistics, Dept. of Community Medicine, KSHEMA, discussed the concepts of levels of measurement, types of data and the basics of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). She mentored the participants on using SPSS software for descriptive statistics.
Ms. Shraddha Shetty, Asst. Professor, Biostatistics, KSHEMA guided the participants on using SPSS for inferential statistics. Four participants shared their experience of the workshop. Certificates were distributed to all the participants.
Prof. Dr. Fatima Dsilva, Principal, NUINS appreciated the expertise of the resource persons and the way the sessions were conducted. Prof Dr. Jacintha Veigas, Coordinator NEU, NUINS proposed the vote of thanks.
A total of 34 students and 13 faculty members benefited from this workshop.
