News from ABSMIDS | Workshop on prevention of sexual harassment and nominating gender champions

A workshop on ‘Prevention of sexual harassment at workplace’ was conducted on 14th September 2023 at the Avishkar Auditorium by the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Cell, ABSMIDS, in association with the Gender Sensitization Cell, Nitte DU.

The program was inaugurated by Prof. M. S. Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU. The gathering was welcomed by Dr. Laxmi Nidhi Rao, Member Secretary, POSH Cell. Dr. Crystal Soans, Member, POSH Cell introduced the speaker, Ms. Jayashree M Rattihalli.

Ms. Jayashree Rattihalli, Advocate & Legal Consultant gave a detailed explanation regarding the steps taken to prevent sexual harassment; what constitutes as workplace harassment; authorities to be contacted in case of such incidents and the steps that would be taken by the concerned authorities when a complaint is lodged.

Dr. Moodithaya stressed on the importance of knowledge of the law in day-to-day life and how the safety of employees and students are of utmost importance to Nitte DU.

Dr. US Krishna Nayak, Principal, ABSMIDS spoke on the importance of safety in workplace. This was followed by nomination of student gender champions by the Principal and Vice-Principal.

The workshop was attended by the Heads of Departments, faculty, postgraduates and undergraduates. The workshop concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Shrinidhi Jain, Member, POSH Cell, ABSMIDS.
