News from ABSMIDS | ‘Self-defense training program - Swaraksha for women’

The Women’s Forum of AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences organized a ‘Self-defense training program - Swaraksha for women’ for the undergraduate students on 5th February 2021. The resource persons were martial artist Mr. Karthik S Kateel and his associate, Mrs. Shobhalatha from the ‘Swaraksha for Women Trust’, Mangalore.

The Principal & Dean, Prof. (Dr.) U.S. Krishna Nayak presided over the function. Prof. (Dr.) Amitha Ramesh, President of Women’s Forum welcomed the gathering; Dr. Shilpa M, Joint Secretary explained the importance of the program to the audience and introduced the resource persons. Prof. (Dr.) Darshana Devadiga, Secretary of Women’s Forum delivered the vote of thanks.

This training session included demonstrations of different situations of assault & harassment, the presence of mind required at such times and the various techniques developed by Mr. Karthik S Kateel to defend oneself. It was an innovative step taken by the institution towards the safety and security of the female students and employees.
