The NSS unit of Dr. NSAM PU College, Mangalore organized a visit to the paddy field located at Chembugudde, Thokkotu on 13th July 2021. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Jayaram Shetty, former MLA, Ullal constituency. Addressing the students, he expressed that agriculture must be modernized and if students have good knowledge in this field, they can help in achieving this. He mentioned that one who cultivates does not experience poverty.
Principal, Dr. Naveen Shetty K presided over the function. In his speech, he said that the college had enrolled students from different parts of the state including Dandeli and Mysore. He added that the present generation is not aware about cultivation of paddy and the purpose of this visit was to enhance knowledge on traditional cultivation.
Around 30 NSS volunteers actively participated in planting the seedlings and got a hands-on experience in traditional cultivation.
Mr. Purushotham Pilaar, former member of Municipal Corporation, Someshwar; Mr. Vishwanath Alva & Mr. Sharath Kumar Bhandari, renowned agriculturists; Mrs. Shakunthala Shetty, owner of the paddy field and few of the staff members were present on the occasion.
NSS officer Mrs. Sandhya welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Manaswi proposed the vote of thanks. The program was coordinated by Mrs. Meera Crasta.
