News from ABSMIDS | National Tooth brushing day 2021

Oral health is considered to be the mirror of general wellbeing. Oral health problems can affect our ability to chew food, the way we speak or communicate and also affect the overall quality of life. It is very essential to educate children regarding the importance of oral health and also emphasize the need to inculcate preventive measures at an early age.

A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore in association with Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva commemorated the NATIONAL TOOTH BRUSHING DAY 2021 by conducting an awareness and hands-on program on tooth brushing for students of Class 1 to 10, on 6th November 2021 at Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva.

Ms. Myrtle L F Lewis, Principal, Don Bosco English Medium School welcomed the Resource faculty, Dr. Sahana Maben and also advised the students to cultivate good tooth brushing habits recommended by the dental experts.

Dr. Sahana Maben, Clinical Coordinator, ABSMIDS spoke about the importance of oral health and also demonstrated the tooth brushing method. Students performed tooth brushing while watching the demonstration. The program was conducted in four sessions and nearly 800 students were beneficiaries. Tooth brushing technique, duration and frequency of tooth brushing, correct time to replace a toothbrush including the importance of oral hygiene was emphasized during the hands-on session.

Mr. Jason Castelino, Teacher, Don Bosco English Medium School proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sandhya, Counsellor compered the program.
