News from NUINS | Lamp Lighting Ceremony

On 13th January 2022, the SNA Council members (2021-2022) organized the Lamp Lighting Ceremony of the 1st Year BSc Nursing students in two batches of 50 each under the guidance of SNA President Prof. Dr. Fatima D’silva and SNA Advisor Mrs. Melba Drago. The Chief Guest of the day was Prof Mrs. Molly Saldanha, Principal, Kanachur Institute of Nursing Sciences.

The Lamp Lighting Ceremony commenced at 9:30 am with a brief introduction by the SNA Vice President, Ms. Caroline Sequeira which was followed by Invocation by Ms. Anagha & team. Dr. Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, NUINS delivered the welcome address. The ceremony was then led by SNA Advisor Mrs. Melba Drago, which commenced with paying a floral tribute to Florence Nightingale by the Chief Guest Prof. Molly Saldanha and the Lighting of the lamp by all the dignitaries. The teachers in turn lit the students’ lamp after which the oath was administered by Prof. Dr. Fatima D’silva, Principal, NUINS.

The Chief Guest then addressed the gathering. She congratulated all the first year students on embarking on a new journey, and stressed on the importance of the word ‘NURSE’ by expanding it. She spoke about two important COVID warriors, one from Dakshina Kanada District and the other from Kerala. She also spoke about the changes brought about in the education system now. She advised them to imbibe the qualities required of a nurse and encouraged them to be the best, wearing a smile always while caring for the patients.

The SNA President & Principal of NUINS, Prof. Dr. Fatima D’silva delivered the presidential address. She congratulated the students and wished them well for all their future endeavors. She expressed her gratitude to the Chief Guest and the organizers of the program and congratulated the freshers. She explained the importance of the lamp lighting ceremony and advised on how to be better nurses, as well as being a better person with kind gestures and kindness. Mrs. Cleeta Pinto, Principal, School of Nursing proposed the vote of thanks.
