News from Dr. NSAM PU College, Mangaluru | Awareness program on POCSO Act and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act

"Sexual abuse of children and teenagers happens in various forms, both directly and indirectly. Sometimes, children may not even be aware of it. In some cases, even if they do notice it, they might feel embarrassed or afraid to report it. However, today the law is completely on the side of children who suffer such abuses. Therefore, these incidents should be brought to the attention of the police either through family members, friends, teachers, or directly. Everyone should be made aware of this" said Mrs. Rosamma, Sub-Inspector, Kadri Police Station.

She was the resource person at the awareness program on the "POCSO Act and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act" organized by the NSS unit of Dr. NSAM PU College, Mangaluru on 26th July 2024 at the college auditorium.

Presiding over the program, Dr. Naveen Shetty K, Principal said, "Respecting a girl child is a part of our culture. Gandhi envisioned a 'Ram Rajya' where girls could walk alone on the streets safely even at midnight. It is indeed unfortunate that today, girls are continuously harassed in our land. Victims of such exploitation or anyone with information about such incidents should fearlessly inform the police department. Only then can such wrongful acts be curbed. Raising awareness among students about this issue is imperative today."

Other attendees included Mr. Sudhakar Rao, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Kadri Station; Head Constable Mrs. Chandravati; Vice-Principal Mrs. Annapurna Nayak; NSS Program Officer Mr. Santosh Shetty; Assistant Program Officer Dr. Sukanya N and NSS volunteers.
