The NSS Unit of NUCSER, under the auspices of NSS Cell, Nitte DU, conducted a special camp at the DKZP Government Higher Primary School, Mannagudda, Mangaluru from 1st to 7th July 2024 to raise awareness about environmental conservation, promote mental health and personal hygiene and foster ideas on sustainable development goals among young minds for their personal and all-round development.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Smt. Sandhya Mohan Acharya, Councillor - Mannagudda Ward, Mangaluru City Corporation; Shri. Sureshchandra Shetty President, Alumni Association, DKZP GHPS; Shri. Rajesh Shetty, Chief Executive, Alumni Association; Shri. Kishore, President, SDMC, DKZP GHPS; Shri. Ganesh Kumar, Headmaster; Shri. Yajneshwar Barke, Founder Chairman, Barke Friends and Prof. (Dr) Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER. The dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the NSS unit of NUCSER for their commitment towards sharing knowledge with students. They also expressed their profound gratitude and respect to Shri. NV Hegde, Chancellor for his generous support towards the conduct of educational activities of the school. The NSS unit donated a projector to the school to support its educational goals and foster better academic outcomes through technological advancements.
The activities in the special camp included a workshop on vermiculture by Prof. Smitha Hegde, Dy. Director, NUCSER and sessions on road safety, food safety, menstrual hygiene, gender sensitization and conservation of marine ecosystem by the PhD research scholars from the institute. Practical demonstrations on food adulterant detection, and interactive sessions on identifying road/ traffic sign boards were held to engage students actively.
A series of activities like poster making on themes of marine pollution and ocean resource conservation was conducted for students. Other activities included skill development programs such as public speaking, preparation of origami, singing & dancing and a quiz on general knowledge, science, geography, current affairs, history. The winners were awarded prizes for various category of events.
The special camp concluded with a valedictory ceremony, graced by Shri. Sathish Shetty, Vice Chairman, Alumni Association, DKZP GHPS and Dr. Kishore Kumar, Principal District Training Centre, Health & Family Welfare Department, Mangaluru, Mr. Shashi Kumar Shetty, NSS Coordinator, Nitte (DU). Mr Subramanya, faculty at DKZP High School proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Deekshit & Dr. Rama Adiga, NSS Program Officers; Dr. Akshatha K, faculty and Mr. Prithvisagar, research scholar coordinated the events.
In total, about 230 students from the school and 40 volunteers comprising of faculty and research scholars from NUCSER participated in the special camp.
