News from NIPT | World Bioethics Day 2024

World Bioethics Day 2024 was organized by the Nitte Bioethics Steering Committee and the Student’s Wing of Nitte Bioethics on 19th October 2024 at Chintana Hall, KS Hegde Hospital. The program aimed to address the critical ethical issues that arise when biases in healthcare systems lead to inequitable treatment.

The event began with an invocation song by Ms. Gana Pilinja, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Purusotham Chippala, Member Secretary, Nitte Bioethics Steering Committee.

Chief guest, Prof. (Dr) Harsha Halahalli, Registrar, Nitte University emphasized the ethical responsibilities of practitioners to provide unbiased care and highlighted the need for educational programs that address ethical challenges in today's healthcare systems.

The highlight of the event was the keynote lecture delivered by the resource person Dr. Chakrapani M, Professor of Medicine and Medical Superintendent, KMC Mangaluru.

His presentation, titled Non-discrimination and Non-stigmatization dealt with Discrimination in Healthcare Settings, Ethical Frameworks for Inclusivity, Practical Strategies to Reduce Stigmatization

On this occasion, the Student Wing Magazine, Agasthya was unveiled. The magazine showcased the creative and academic contributions of students to the field of bioethics. Following this, certificates were distributed to the winners of the competitions organized by the Student Wing of Bioethics.

Ms. Harshitha Bedi, Final Year MBBS was declared the Most Active Member of the Student’s Wing of Nitte Bioethics. A symbolic Oath Ceremony was conducted to induct the newly appointed office bearers of the Student Wing of Bioethics The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Manav, new President of the Student Wing of Bioethics.
