Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research (NUCSER) and the DST Technology Centre, Nitte DU jointly celebrated World Food Day 2024 on 16th October 2024 at the Seminar Hall of NUCSER. The theme for this year was ‘Right to food for a better life and a better future’. Dr Vinod Kumar MG, Research Group Leader, Radboud University Medical Centre in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, was the chief guest for the program. Prof. Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Advisor (Research & Patents), Nitte DU and Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director, DST TEC & Projects at Nitte DU were the resource persons.
Dr. Vinod Kumar MG, discussed the crucial role of research in addressing challenges in the food sector, emphasizing the impact of the gut microbiome on individual health. Prof. Iddya Karunasagar delivered a lecture titled "One Health for Better Food, Better Life and Better Future" where he discussed the establishment and objectives of the FAO, as well as global food security and nutrition challenges. Prof. Indrani Karunasagar spoke on "Right to Quality Food and Water" addressing various hazards present in food and water, including physical, chemical and biological agents, and their potential health risks to humans and animals.
The event had 120 participants that included faculty, research scholars and students.
